Agri-Tech and Food Tech Launchpad

The Connected Innovation team led the successful bid for the £7.5m Agri-Tech and Food Tech Launchpad from Innovate UK to support the growth of agri-tech, agri-biotech, food tech and aquaculture innovations across Norfolk, Suffolk, Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire.

This programme provided grant funding for innovation projects and collaborative research and development projects, supporting start-ups, spinouts, scale-ups, universities and research institutes in Eastern England.

Cluster Management funding has ensured the Connected Innovation team (across Norfolk and Suffolk County Councils) are working with Lincolnshire County Council and Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority to support companies in the cluster with their innovation journey – whether they received funding for a project or not.

The programme supported 53 projects via New Innovators (£25k-50k), Minimum Financial Assistance (£25k-100k) & Collaborative R&D (£150k-300k) funding competitions support a wide-range of spin-outs, start-ups and scale-ups.

The successful projects ranged from open digital farming, robotics, AI adoption, sustainable energy generation to new technologies being developed in food production.

Connected Innovation continues to work with key partners in the region to keep driving this successful cluster such as Innovate UK Business Connect, Innovate UK Business Growth, Agri-TechE, Norwich Research Park, Cefas, Agricultural Associations, the Agri-Food Industry Council for Norfolk & Suffolk, Tastebuds Collective, Space East, the Agri-Tech Centre, NAAME and Made Smarter Adoption – East of England.

Launchpad Cluster Management

The Cluster Management for the Agri-tech and food technology in Eastern England is supported by partners across Connected Innovation, Lincolnshire County Council, Norfolk County Council Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority and Suffolk County Council.

This partnership provides support to the Agri-tech and Food-tech businesses across the region linking in with support providers, funding sources and a network of agricultural partners.
