Framlingham Technology Centre leads the way in sustainability with solar investment
Framlingham Technology Centre has reinforced its position as a leader in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices with the installation of a cutting-edge solar panel system. This initiative supports the Centre’s dedication to reducing its environmental impact while promoting a modern, sustainable workspace for its tenants.
A leap forward in clean energy
The newly operational FTC PV Scheme features 125 high-efficiency 420W solar panels, with a 3-phase inverter and six Zappi 7kW EV chargers, enabling on-site renewable energy generation and supporting the transition to electric vehicles. The system is expected to save 27,250kWh of energy annually, cutting carbon emissions by 7.5 tonnes of CO₂e each year—a major stride in the Centre’s sustainability strategy.
Supported by local investment
This project was made possible through a £14,367.68 grant from East Suffolk Council, awarded under the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, designed to stimulate local economic growth. The funding aligns with the Centre’s wider revitalisation efforts following severe flood damage from Storm Babet in October 2023. After a £720,000 refurbishment, the ground floor reopened last month, marking a new chapter for the facility.
Leadership in action
Tony Stockman, Chairman of Framlingham Technology Centre, commented:
“As a champion of ESG principles, we are focused on delivering real, measurable benefits for both our community and the environment. Our new solar energy system is central to this mission—enabling us to generate clean power, lower emissions, and set a new standard for sustainable business operations. This project not only reflects our environmental commitment but also ensures we provide a progressive, eco-conscious workspace for our tenants. We’re excited to see the tangible impact of this initiative as we monitor its performance over the next year.”
Cllr Tim Wilson, East Suffolk Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Transport, added:
“We are proud to champion green technology wherever possible, and we’re delighted to support this project. It’s a fantastic example of how local businesses can embrace sustainability, reducing energy costs while contributing to a cleaner future.”
